Classrooms THEN and NOW

THEN

NOW

Getting a glimpse of how technology plays a vital role in the education of our students is an eye-opener. Looking back at how classrooms were structured and set up, we can see that our schools are shifting to a new world. Compared to classrooms of the past, we can see that environments are similar, but equipment and tools to carry out teaching and participate in learning has changed. With technology becoming an integral part of our lives, we are able to see that technology is needed in the classroom. Because of technology, we are able to connect to our students, upgrade our communication network with others, and even make teaching and learning convenient and accessible. Times are changing and, as teachers, we need to be able to change with the times in order to be effective. Technology can be utilized in numerous ways!!!

  1. Technology is not only relevant to temporal difference "now and then," but also to spatial difference "here and there." Despite its fast growing popularity in many parts of the world, there are still places where technology is not accessible. It's a shame but hopefully, in the near future, technology will not be different between "here and there." Then, all highly qualified teachers and educators alike will be able to reach out to students from all corners of the world to disseminate the new way of education.

  2. I agree Lwin, thank you for mentioning that but yes despite the fast growing high technology in many parts of the world there are still places that technology is not accessible. On my island there are computers in the schools but there is no internet. The teachers use the computers for typing and to send wave mails to other teachers on the other islands. So the computers are only for the teachers to use not for the students. But slowly things are changing little by little. When I was growing up the only thing we have in the classrooms were blackboard, chalks and textbooks. But now, the schools have computers even though there is not internet the teachers can use the computers to type up their quizzes and assignments as well as do grading on Microsoft Excel. So slowly but surely we know that we are moving forward. Thank you Tish for your post.

  3. I feel like I am behind in the times. This post is definitely talking to me. I sometimes feel overwhelmed with what technology has to offer. Like I said, "I feel like a kid in a candy store". Because technology has so much to offer, I want to try all the different tools and visit different sites. In the end I need to only take what I can handle that would be a benefit to all the students that I work with, without overwhelming myself as a teacher.

Yes, I do need to keep in mind about our students that are not afforded the opportunities and benefits of owning a computer, or even having access to one.
